Fox Hill Happenings ~ 1-13-17

principalsdeskThis year the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has upgraded MCAS testing intended to better measure the critical thinking skills students need for success in the 21st century.

This new test, informally called “Next-Generation MCAS,” will build upon the best aspects of the MCAS assessments that have served the Commonwealth well for the past two decades. The test was designed to include innovative academic items created to assess the Massachusetts learning standards.  Next-Generation MCAS was designed to be taken on a computer and Burlington Public School students will take this assessment on their ipads.

Our state testing dates are as follows:

Grades 3-5 ELA

  • Tuesday, April 4th
  • Wednesday, April 5th
  • Thursday, April 6th

Grades 3-5 Math

  • Tuesday, May 9th
  • Wednesday, May 10th

Grade 5 Science

  • Tuesday, May 16th
  • Wednesday, May 17th

It is very important that students attend school during these dates.  Test results are reviewed and analyzed so we can better understanding our curriculum strengths and needs. Below is a link created for parents from DESE that explains and outlines state testing.  If anyone has any questions, please email or call me.

On a lighter note, Dr. Conti substituted this week in Mrs. Tigges’ class.  The kids were very excited and felt special to have Dr. Conti as their substitute.  I visited Mrs. Tigges’ classroom several times to help out if needed and what I saw was great teaching and kids having fun learning!  Thank you to Dr. Conti for taking time out of his very busy schedule to spend all day at Fox Hill School!  We loved having you and we hope you come back very soon!
