New School Hours & Transportation Procedures

Dear Fox Hill Families,

It is just about time to begin the 2018-2019 school year at Fox Hill School.  Please take a moment to review our new school hours and transportation procedures.

New School Hours
First Day of School for Grades 1-5 is on Tuesday, September 4th

  • 8:10 am – 2:15 pm for Grades 1-5

First Day of School for Kindergarten is on Thursday, September 6th

  • 8:10 am – 12:45 pm for Kindergarten

Bus Transportation
Bus transportation is available for all students on a daily basis.  Bus routes are published at the beginning of the school year and are available on the Burlington Public Schools website.  Please make note of your child’s bus number as routes have changed for the 2018-2019 school year.

Please talk with your child about bus rules and safety at the bus stop and on the bus.  A few important things to note are:

  • Stay in your seat until the bus stops.  When the bus stops wait for the bus driver’s directions.
  • Changing seats is prohibited.
  • Seat saving is not allowed.
  • Keep hands and objects inside the bus.
  • Be kind and use an “indoor voice”.
  • Keep your body and backpack calm.
  • Remember to bring all of your belongings with you.

Students will sit by grade order with grade 5 sitting at the back of the bus and grade one sitting at the front.  Older siblings may sit up front with their younger siblings, but younger siblings may not sit in the back with the older students.

Riding the bus is a privilege which can be revoked if students do not follow bus rules.  If a situation occurs where a student is not following the bus rules, consequences will be at the discretion of the principal.  Bus suspensions can be a consequence as a result of repeated offenses, or the severity of an incident.

Dismissal Changes
If there will be a change in your child’s dismissal plan, please send in a note to your child’s classroom teacher on the day of the change.  If you have a change of plans that you were unaware of in advance, please call the school office as soon as possible. Due to scheduling, we can not accept changes in dismissal plans after 1:30pm on the day of the change.

If your child will be going home on a different bus, for any reason, please send in a note to the classroom teacher.  The office will check to confirm that the alternate bus has enough room to accommodate the change. Due to space constraints, the buses cannot accommodate changes that will involve groups of larger than 3 students.  It is important to note that no child is allowed to take alternate transportation without written parent consent.

Parent Drop Off
Morning drop off begins at 7:55am.  Please do not drop students off before that as staff supervision does not begin until this time.  Parents driving students to school in the morning are required to use the access road on the right as you enter Fox Hill School.  Please drive around the building until you reach the end of the access road at the end of the playground. Students should exit the car from the left hand side and walk to the sidewalk.  For student safety, students are to exit from the first two cars in line only. Parents, please then follow the arrows to exit the parking lot using the last two rows of the lot.

Parent Pickup
For parents in grades 1-5, pickup will begin at 2:15pm.  Please follow the Fox Hill access road and the first car should stop parallel to the Fox Hill School recess doors.  Cars will form a single line and parents will remain in their cars. Teachers will walk all parent pickup students out to a designated spot at 2:15pm and teachers will dismiss students one at a time to the first two cars in line.  Students will enter the car on the left hand side door. Once students are in the car and the car door is closed, proceed to the last two rows of the parking lot to exit.

For parents in Kindergarten, please follow the same pickup process as grades 1-5, but pickup will begin at 12:45pm.

If you will be sending a different driver to pick up your child, you must send a note to the classroom teacher stating the change of driver that includes their full name.  Students will not be dismissed to a different driver without a note from a parent.

If you are late for Parent Pickup, you must come to the main office to pick up your child.

Walkers
All students who walk home are dismissed through the main lobby.  They will exit the building quietly and stay on the sidewalk where they are met by the crossing guard.

I appreciate your support in following these policies to ensure the safety of our students.

Sincerely,
David Rosenblatt
Principal

Welcome Back to School!

Dear Fox Hill Families,

I want to welcome you to the start of an exciting new school year at the Fox Hill School.  I am truly honored to begin as the new principal at Fox Hill and I can not wait to meet all of the families in our Fox Hill community.  Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have been in the field of education for the last 13 years. I was a teacher for 10 years and taught grades 1, 3, 4, and 5.  The last two years I have been the Assistant Principal of the Memorial School here in Burlington. I am passionate about education and helping students learn.

This summer has been very busy time for me as I learn about the day to day life at Fox Hill.  Our office and custodial staff have been busy getting the school ready for the first day. I have met many educators at Fox Hill this summer, and I was so impressed by their commitment to the success of every student that they teach.  I am honored to be leading a staff that is truly invested in your child.

I would like to let you know about some staffing changes that have happened over the summer.  Our school nurse, Suzy Shields, has taken a new position at Burlington High School. She was an important member of the Fox Hill community and she will be missed.  Taking over for her will be Melissa Roosevelt, who was previously a resource nurse in the Burlington Public Schools. Also new to Fox Hill is our new school psychologist, Kim Kost.  Kim has been a school psychologist in the Wrentham Public Schools for the last few years. We are very excited for Melissa and Kim to be members of the Fox Hill community. I think you will be very impressed with both of them.

I also would like to take a moment to thank Ellen Johnson.  Ellen was the dedicated principal at Fox Hill for the last ten years and she has left behind an amazing community for me to be a part of.  She has been a great help to me while getting started and I truly appreciate it. I know we all are jealous of the days at the beach she will get to enjoy this September!

As summer is winding down, I will be in touch more frequently with news.  If you need to reach me you can call my office at 781-270-1791 or email me at drosenblatt@bpsk12.org.  In the meantime, please enjoy the warm weather while it lasts.  I will see you all soon.

Sincerely,

David Rosenblatt
